Henley-in-Arden
Henley's chief feature is its high street. One of the best
known in England, its rich diversity of architecture - red brick, black and
white half timber and plaster - blends together as no single building.
To walk along henley High street is to see Warwickshire's
townscape at its best. On the east side of the street stands the Stone House
and northwards again are grouped a number of half timbered buildings, including
The Gables (15th century), The Three Tuns (17th century) and the Blue ell with
its high gateway, from the 15th century. Opposite the Guild Hall is The White
Swan, a restored coaching inn, where it is thought that the poet Shenstone
was inspired to write his famous line about 'the warmest inn'.
Walking
There are many excellent signposted footpath walks of variying
distances around Henley. The Heart of England Way passes through Henley and
crosses the High Street between numbers 96 and 98. The Stratford canal is owned
by the National Trust and a stroll along its towpath will take you past some
of the most beautiful countryside in Warwickshire.
Shopping
Henley has attractive high class shops. At Tudor Dairies the
most famous ice cream in the Midlands is sold. A retail market is held every
Wednesday and most Sundays in Warwick Road.
