Exploring
Henley is ideally situated for exploring Warwickshire. Eight
miles to south is Stratford-upon-Avon with its Shakespearean properties and
the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Eight miles to the east is the county town of Warwick with
its famous castke. Whilst in Warwick you should also have a look at its town
gates, St. Mary's Church and the Lord Leycester Hospital.
Royal Leamington Spa, three miles further on, has a wealth
of Georgian, Regency and Victorian buildings. It has imposing Pump Rooms and
Roman Baths and the Jephson Gardens are always beautifully kept.
Between Henley and Solihull are two National Trust properties.
Sixteenth century Packwood House, famous for the Yew Garden laid ou to represent
the Sermon on the Mount - twelve apostles circling four evangelists and they
are crowned by a single tree representing The master.
The other property in this area well worth visiting is Baddesley
Clinton. Cughton Court near Alcester is essentially Elizabethan with later
additions. The Throckmortons who lived here were indirectly invloved in the
gunpowder plot of 1605. |
